Vacation Recap - Switzerland

After spending the Christmas and New Year holidays at home with family and friends I started my trip back to Russia but made a few stops along the way.  I first flew to Frankfurt, hopped on a train to Zurich for a day and would continue on to St. Anton, Austria for a ski trip with friends.

Since I was young I've always been fascinated with Switzerland but had never taken the chance to visit.  Finally, I made this stop in Zurich just to get a glimpse before continuing by train to my next destination.  Of course it was not enough time to see everything I wanted to see but I got a taste of the Swiss life.  I only had the one full day so I figured it was best to book a day long tour that travelled outside of Zurich, stopping in Lucerne and then into the mountains so I could see as much as possible in such a little amount of time.  It's a beautiful country and I hope to go back someday to see more of it.

One little hiccup in the trip is when i met a couple on the same tour from Canada/US.  The husband was from Edmonton but had met his wife in Pittsburgh and subsequently moved there.  After he told me this there was a bit of silence so I figured I should try and come up with a witty comment about this.  I blurted out 'Yes, I heard that can happen in Pittsburgh.'   Maybe not my best choice of words as I think they took my meaning to be that Pittsburgh women are easy.  They didn't speak to me for the rest of the tour (7 hours) and I received periodic menacing looks from his wife.

Other than that the tour was great and finished with a chance to tour one of the more popular mountains  (Mount Titlis) in Switzerland.  We took three gondolas to reach the summit with the final one being a 360 degree rotating lift so you could get the full surrounding view.  It had a bar at the peak and claimed to be the highest bar in Europe.  A good place to have a beer.
